Neglecting to update

Our front lawn is coming in nicely, and I have neglected to update about it at all.

Here is the picture of right after we planted:

Things are growing pretty well, but the weeds are LOVING all the water! We are now in "kill the weeds" mode.

I need some grass killer for the flower bed too.

This poor section is pretty overgrown with weeds, and I am hoping we can get rid of them by winter.

  

Surprisingly, the area we thought was going to do the worst, is doing the best. The grass is SUPER happy in this front section. It also has the least weeds.

 There is even a tiny bit that could stand to be mowed.....but it is only about the size of the mower so I think we will just leave it for now.

We are planning to re-seed this next weekend, and fertilize some more. Hopefully the weeds that we sprayed will have died by then, and I can pull them up before we fertilize. I think we need to water the slower growing sections more and see if that is what is keeping the grass from really taking off. I am LOVING having green in the front! I almost can't wait to do the back yard next year.

I love that it's spring!!

I am loving the warm (mostly) weather lately! Kaylee and I have been outside a lot playing and working in the dirt that will soon become our lawn. There is so much work still to do, but we are hoping to get it all done in the next couple weeks.

These are a little crooked, but you can see some of the work we have done this past couple weeks.

We have been able to go to the park to play a couple times, but it always seems to get cold as soon as we get there. Kaylee loves the playgrounds, and begs to go anytime we drive past one.

She is finally getting brave enough to go on the slide without too much encouragement from me

Hobbs and Patriot

Patriot sunning himself. He really isn't as fat as he looks in this picture! He is just laying with his shoulders all skewed so it looks like it......and he has a TON of skin around his neck and shoulders.

Hobbs is turning into an "old man" and is finally learning the joys of basking in the sun.....he still insists on having something to chew though lol

I hosed off the rabbit cage and Kaylee was super excited to "taste" the hose. Lol, she meant drink from the hose, but for some reason she kept saying taste.

I have a feeling this is going to be her main source of water this summer

I totally LOVE this little girl! I can't believe she turns 3 in only 4 months!!

Such Perfect Weather!

The weather these past few weeks has been amazing! Kaylee and I have really enjoyed being able to walk with the dogs without dying of heat stroke. I love being able to go to the park with her and not have to worry about the slides being too hot.

Robert and I took advantage of the good weather, and unexpected extra time off :( to work on our front yard.....or lack thereof.

Kaylee looks SO big in this picture! You can also see how packed the ground is where we tore out the raised flower beds.

The front "yard" before:

The existing sprinkler system doesn't work so we needed to dig it up. Robert did a lot of the digging especially by the porch where the controls were. It was a huge hole!

The sprinkler system pipes were ridiculous. There were two pipes along side each other going the entire length of the yard! And, to be able to till the yard we needed them to not be there. So we dug them up by hand! it took FOREVER and was incredibly difficult. Our ground is filled with huge rocks and boulders. If you look back to the first picture, the two big rocks are the same size as the ones we were pulling out of the ground not even a foot deep.

^^This is a pile of boulders that surrounded a little tree that was super dead when we moved in.

After all the weeds were killed and mostly scrapped off the dirt. you can also see the trench we dug to get the sprinkler pipe up.

Before and after tilling. It was SO wonderful to see the dirt! I don't know why it was so encouraging, but it was one step closer to having an actual grass yard!

The next step is to rake the roots out of the dirt. I thought that would be pretty easy.....oh boy was I wrong! The roots are everywhere! We are planning to spray everything that re-grows, maybe re-till before winter, and then spray, till, and plant grass in the spring. I can NOT wait to have a yard! That is the thought that kept me going all 4 days we were digging in the yard. I want GRASS for Kaylee to play on!

I am trying not to think about the back yard. It is depressing that we have to do it all over again, plus pick out all the craziness that is back there, to get grass in the back......
