The past four days have been some of the longest I could ever imagine.
After Sunday's crazy sleeping marathon Kaylee started to be super fussy. I believe I said she was "really fussy and seems like she has a lot of gas or some other pain". That didn't go away. By Tuesday night I was getting a little desperate and feeling the affects of the PPD, the frustration and resentment to be specific. Wednesday morning was better until about noon when the screaming started and continued until 10 that night. Kaylee refused to stay asleep in her crib for longer than 20 minutes.
Really the only time she seemed somewhat comfortable was when one of us were holding her and she had something in her mouth; either our finger or her passi. She would eat pretty well most of the day and then in the afternoon and evening would start to refuse to nurse and would just gag, choke, and start screaming in pain. It was so heartbreaking to just hold her while she screamed in pain. There was nothing we could do to comfort her!
On Wednesday I started giving her Mylicon gas drops after every meal, but they almost seemed to make it worse. She would without fail spit up after every meal, and sometimes during them and that would start the crying and screaming. By some form of luck (or a blessing from the Lord) she was still sleeping through the night. She wasn't making it her usual 7 hours, but 5-6 is something most new parents would kill for. I don't know what I would have done if she was up screaming during the night.....Robert was at work most nights this week so I would have been alone. Ugh, I don't even like to think about it! I am very happy to be able to say that Robert and I didn't take our frustration and confusion out on each other. We both just sat together and passed her back and forth, and continually tried to suggest things that might work. It is great to have such a wonderful husband!
This morning she barely made it through the first feeding of the day before she started screaming. I didn't give her any gas drops, but continued to try every trick suggested for gassy babies. I burped her, laid her on her stomach on my lap, massaged her belly, did bicycle legs, warm pads on her belly, and was getting ready to try herbal remidies. Nothing was working so I got out the "Baby Whisperer Solves all your Problems" book and looked for the page about digestive problems in infants. What a lifesaver!!! It described the symptoms of gas, colic, and reflux. Gas fit a little, but didn't really ring a bell. Colic didn't quite sound right either. Then I got to reflux, and it was like reading about the last 4 days of our life!
I called the pediatrician and luckly they were able to get us in an hour later. I described the symptoms to the doctor and heard the magic words "your baby has some reflux!" We were given some sample medication for her, and gave her a dose as soon as we got home. I am happy to say that Kaylee has been asleep for a solid hour now sense she got the medicine. I don't know if that is what fixed it or if she just passed out finally. The doctor said not to expect a real change for 3-4 days, but I wonder if that is just the longest it can take.
I cannot explain how much of a weight was lifted off my shoulders when the doctor confirmed my diagnoses! It was comforting to know that I was reading my baby right, I knew she was in pain, and that she wasn't just "being a baby". It was also wonderful to hear that this was something fixable, and that I didn't cause it. Having PPD makes me lean towards blaming myself for every little thing that goes wrong with Kaylee.
It is possible that Kaylee will need to take this medicine for 4-9 months until her stomach opening matures and tightens enough to keep her from getting heartburn. I am hoping it was just something I ate that triggered this, and it will go away more quickly than that. But if it doesn't, hopefully the medicine continues to keep her comfortable.

5 Weeks!
Kaylee has had a rough couple days, but today seems to be a little better. Hopefully it is due to the gas drops, and she will continue to feel better. I am not looking forward to having to give her gas drops ever meal for weeks, but that is life.
She is 9.6 pounds today! I forgot to weigh her until after I fed her, so realistically it is probably a few ounces less than that, but she is getting to be a big girl!
This week she gets to meet her Aunt Kathryn! Well the Aunt Kathryn on my side. They just moved back from Texas for school and get to see her on Saturday. I can't wait to see my little sister again. It has been tough being an only child for the last month. Hopefully they are here to stay.

Yes, she is in a cloth diaper in these! I use them in between naps now. But still not every day because I only have enough diapers to last a day and a half....hopefully the bumGenius' will start fitting now that she is almost 10 lbs! We had our first leak with the cloth diapers though. I think it was just not put on tight enough, but it was also a lot of poop.

AGILITY CLASS!
I was not expecting to have Hobbs in another agility class until spring, but I got an email today about a class that will be starting "in the fall". It will be small, only 4 or 5 dogs, but it will be an intermediate class! I am so excited for Hobbs to get some more class experience under his belt. Then we can take a class in the spring and maybe be ready to compete next year. Now I just have to work hard to get him weaving uprights....maybe I need to ask for some nice ones for Christmas.
I have been playing with him in the back yard with our 3 jumps, weaves, and plank.....but there is only so much you can do with those. I am slowly gluing the poles upright, but so far we only have two glued. It hasn't really slowed him down at all, but it will be interesting to see what happens as more get glued. I need to find a way to weight the bottom so the whole thing doesn't jump around when he runs them.
Oh, on a sad note, I found out today that a local CC'd dog "Fenton" passed away. He had escaped on a walk and his family had put up LOST signs. Two weeks later they found him down by the river....he had drowned. It is very sad, but they still have their other CC'd dog "Peco"

Kaylee is going through her first ever growth spurt....I think. Yesterday we went to visit Robert's family and Kaylee literally slept almost the whole day. Here was her "schedule" yesterday:

1 Month!!
Today is Kaylee's one month birthday, so I took some cute pictures of her in her swing.

Play Gym
I decided to get Kaylee a play gym so I have somewhere else for her to lay when she doesn't want to be held by me. I always felt bad just putting her in the swing, or laying her on the floor on a blanket. She really likes it so far! The mirror that comes in it is her favorite, but I think she gets overwhelmed by all the other things on it. I took some pictures of her enjoying it before I took a bunch of the toys off of it.
PPD-wise I am feeling much better today even though it isn't as good of a day as yesterday. I took the dogs out this morning for a long walk and made sure I got a nap, both of which helped a lot!

PPD
Today I went to talk to a counselor about my possibly having postpartum depression....and it turns out that I do.
For a while now, I have been having really tough days every once in a while, and yesterday it kind of scared me. I am not going to go into details, but I was having some scary thoughts and feelings regarding Kaylee and being a mom in general. Don't worry, I was NOT considering hurting her!!!
Robert was good enough to make the call to a counselor suggested by my doctor's office, and set up an appointment for this morning. I woke up today feeling 100% better (8 straight hours of sleep helped) and almost didn't go to the appointment. Now I am so glad that I did! Most of what the counselor said I already knew or had heard before, but what I hadn't realized is that I had all but 2 symptoms on a list of 10 or 12. Yesterday I even had a couple symptoms of postpartum anxiety....scary! Much of these are because I have not been taking enough time for myself, have not been getting enough sleep, or eating as well as I should.
Now I have a whole list of things to do to deal with this, and if that doesn't work, there is the possibility of medication help. I may possibly be posting on here when I have a really bad day, but please know that these posts will very honest. Robert and both sets of parents know that I am having some problems, so I have a good support system in place and don't feel like it will get out of hand.
I am SOOO glad that I went in to talk to someone about what I was feeling. I am feeling much better today, and hope that just talking through this will help me a lot.

4 Weeks!
Our little girl is 4 weeks old today!! I don't know if she counts as a month old until the 22nd of this month (Robert says no), but it has been four whole weeks sense I had her. I can't believe how crazy that is!
She is growing by leaps and bounds and as of first thing this morning she is 8.8 lbs (not sure exactly how many oz .8 is but anyways) and that was before she ate breakfast so she wasn't full of an extra 3-4 oz of milk. That means in the last week she has gained .4 lbs. She has yet to actually smile on purpose, but there have been a couple times that I wondered if it was really gas. She is getting better every day at holding her head up and pushing her whole body up while she is on our shoulders.
I love love love her little fingers!
This little hint of a smile took over 20 shots to get!

As for me....the weight loss has officially stopped:( It was so nice for a while to lose at least 3 lbs a day. It stopped right at 30 lbs so I have 13 lbs to go before I am back to my pre pregnancy weight. I am hoping to get back into walking even if it is on the treadmill rather than out with the dogs. I took the dogs and Kaylee for a walk again this morning and this time Kaylee stayed happier...well asleep... for longer. I also need to start eating healthy food, although nothing healthy sounds remotely good ever. Plus healthy food takes a lot longer to fix than tuna helper, and ordering pizza lol.

Car Crash
Last night I had put Kaylee to bed and was waiting the 15-20 minutes it takes to make sure she is really asleep. Usually if she stays quiet for 15 minutes she is asleep for good. Anyway, I was laying there reading and I heard what sounded like distant screeching of tires and then hear and felt a few loud booms. Honestly it sounded nothing like a car crash, and for a second I thought maybe something had exploded somewhere. At the same time it sounded like it had been right in front of the house.
I didn't feel like getting up to go look so I kind of forgot about it. Right as I was about to go to sleep, I went to open Kaylee's door so I could hear her during the night. That is when I saw the lights flashing in front of the house. Our neighbors are kind of.....interesting, so I wondered for a second if someone had called the police on them. Then I remembered the screeching.
I stuck my head out the front door, and saw TONS of police officers out in the road and all over our driveway and the neighbor's lawn. There was an ambulance parked in front of their house as well. I didn't see any evidence of a car crash at first and almost went back inside.....then I noticed that the police were measuring skid marks on the road and our driveway!!
I went to our other window and actually stood on the couch to see over the car in the carport. All I could see was a mangled tree and the back end of a car with paramedics and police officers around it. I couldn't believe what I was seeing!! It looked like the car had crashed into the neighbor's house.
This morning I went outside to look at the damage, and it turns out the car had crashed in to the truck in their driveway NOT their house. From the black marks on the road it looks like the car drifted into the wrong side of the road, over corrected and went flying over the entrance to our driveway and onto their front lawn. It blasted through the cement lined flower beds on the side of the yard, and tore down and mangled the tree in their yard.
The scariest part is that, at one point, the skid marks were pointed straight at our front window! If they hadn't turned at the last second, they would have ended up in our living room.
I am so glad that no one's house was destroyed in this accident! I know they were getting the driver of the car into the ambulance, but I have no idea his/her condition at all. Luckily it was late at night, because the neighbors usually hang out right where the car ended up on the lawn.
I may take a couple pictures tomorrow morning, but I don't want to be nosy so it may not happen.

Two Dogs and a Baby
Here are some pictures I took this morning that really demonstrate the boy's attitudes towards Kaylee. I have total faith in the boys that they are not going to hurt or step on Kaylee so they join us on the floor for "tummy time" every day. Kaylee was never left alone with them and was perfectly safe despite how close they boys got to her.

UGH....
I really wish I had more time for these boys!
Patriot and Hobbs are doing really well with Kaylee. Patriot basically ignores her, and Hobbs constantly follows me around when I have her in my arms. She was laying on the floor today and he came over to sniff her, she waved her arm, it hit him, and he DIDN'T run away!! He just moved his head out of reach. So he is finally getting better with her. They both still get really concerned when she gets to really screaming, but that is understandable. The funny part about that is that I think Patriot is concerned about her, but Hobbs acts like he is concerned about me!
Their days are pretty boring. In the morning I take them to walk around the school yard behind our house, and some evenings we go to the dog park. Real walks are basically non existant which is really sad. I can take them out with Kaylee in the stroller but lately she really hates being strapped in it and I don't dare take her in it without being strapped. I just got a Moby Wrap so with a bit of practice with it, I should be able to walk them soon.

My first ever load of diaper laundry was a big success! Here is what I washed and how I washed it:
5 Fuzzi Bunz
5 microfiber bumGenius inserts
3 prefolds
3 Grobaby shells
5 Grobaby inserts
1 Planet Wise pail liner
I had them in my pail liner, and didn't rinse them off or soak them at all. I have a front load washer and use Country Save detergent. My first cycle was the cold short wash with an extra rinse and a TINY amount of detergent. As the second rinse finished and before the spin cycle started I shut off the washer. Then I let the soaking wet diapers sit in the washer for about 20 minutes before starting the hot heavy duty cycle. I used about 1/3 tbs of detergent dissolved in 1/3 cup of hot water. This was followed by another extra rinse.
Unfortunately by the time the washing was done, the sun was gone so I couldn't fully dry them in the sun. So into the dryer they went, and I hung them out in the sun for a couple hours this morning to make sure there weren't any stains. It wasn't really necessary but I wanted to get my first pictures of my fluff drying on the line.

3 Weeks Old!
Our little girl is 3 WEEKS OLD, how did that happen!?!?! I did a little photo shoot this morning because she was super awake and happy. I can not believe she is getting so big so fast! I weighed her yesterday morning and she was 8.4 lbs....granted, I think 3+ of those were from her having had a big breakfast. Either way, she is at least 8 lbs which is a 6 oz gain in a week.

The First....and Second.....of MANY!
This morning I got brave and put Kaylee in one of my nice one size diapers.....and it FIT!! Happy 3 week birthday present Kaylee!
The top around her belly was a little loose, but it was snug around the legs and back where most leaks happen. It was one of my Fuzzi Bunz with a bumGenius newborn insert in it. Holy moley it was bulky!! I was a little afraid her onsie wasn't going to snap around the diaper but it did. And, of course, I had to take pictures of this big moment!

She had it on for all of about 10 minutes when she put it to good use. I was tempted to take pictures, but didn't want to gross anyone out. So here are some of her just before changing into her second cloth diaper of all time.
This time it was a Grobaby diaper which also fit and was even a little snug around the legs.
She is napping in that diaper as I post this so it will be interesting to see if it holds everything in after a 2 hour nap. ***Update*** The diaper was great for the nap, even though its insert was soaked, it didn't leak.

For today, Kaylee will be in cloth so that I will have enough to do a load of fluff laundry.....that should be interesting ;)
