Good Books

I haven't really started reading parenting books, but I got one for Christmas and bought another one because a few moms said it was ESSENTIAL to survival. So here are the two books I have read most of so far. In my opinion they are both wonderful!!

This one is mostly for LDS moms, and uses a lot of scriptural references to the Book of Mormon. It it a wonderful book, but it can get a little overwhelming at least to me! I can only read one chapter at a time because it blows me away with how much of a responsibility raising this little spirit is. I don't feel like I am in a good enough place spiritually to be teaching a child how to love the Lord and Christ. But I guess that will come in time. I recommend this book to any mom, but more so to the LDS moms out their.

This one is great too! I have gotten a little bit of flack from other moms about wanting to try to put my baby on a schedule to get him/her to be as happy of a baby as possible. This book isn't one that just says "make your baby sleep whether it wants/needs to or not!" or "Don't feed your baby more than every 3 hours no matter what!" This one basically teaches you to learn to respect your baby, and learn what it is trying to tell you. The only "Schedule" it teaches is E.A.S.Y or Eat Sleep Activity You. It keeps the baby on a natural and predictable schedule of events through the day. I find it fascinating, and hope that I am capable of doing it with this baby. It makes a lot of sense where as other portions of "Scheduling" books just seem mean to me.Anyways, I just thought I would review these book before my baby comes, and then I can post about what works, and what was complete crap after the baby comes.

Happy Birthday Calliope!

My little Calliope girl is 4 today!! She was such a joy to raise, and I am so glad that she and her partner are still together. I don't hear much from them, but when I do her partner sounds very happy with her. Hopefully they get to work together for a long time to come.

I love you baby girl!! Happy Birthday!!

Rally Class #3

Patriot's class was great on Tuesday! This time we got to walk through actual courses set up by our instructor and then take our dogs through them. We got to preform a couple new signs, some of which weren't so easy! Patriot did a good job this time, but I forgot yet again to take some water for him and he got tired and quit about 15 minutes before the end of class. I took some string cheese as his treat which he loved, but he has been a bit itchy sense then so I don't think he will be getting any more. I may try carrots next! Their just aren't any good salmon/fish treats.

I tried practicing some rally stuff with Hobbs yesterday....lets just say that he was a little too eager to do stuff. If I didn't praise him immediately and all the time he would start improvising and doing new things to try to get me to react! Also I made the mistake of teaching him to lift up his paws, trying to imitate one of Silvia Trkman's tricks. Now whenever he sits, he lifts up a paw trying to get a click and treat. I vowed I would never teach my dogs paw tricks for this very reason!!! Now I have to un teach it!

I wrote to GDB asking for them to re-send Patriot's AKC registration papers. This is because there is a Rally/Obedience trial in March that I want to enter. I may try to get Hobbs an ILP# before then, but that probably wont happen that quickly.

It feels like my blog has gotten kind of boring lately! Sorry if that is the case. I am planning to take some pictures tomorrow of the boys on our hike. That is, if I don't end up being exhausted when I wake up!

Week 15!

Yet another week of feeling mostly good all the time! I still have tired days, but more often than not I feel great. Tomorrow marks two weeks until my doctor's apointment were we hopefully will find out the sex of our baby! I can't wait, and am already hoping that this little one decides to cooperate. As for the stats for the week, they are basically the same as last week.
  • Weight: 156.8
  • Waist: 36"....and maybe 1/4"
  • TP square measurement: 9 1/2 sq
  • Bra size: Maternity Large
  • Sleeping Schedule: Go to Bed @ 9:00-10:30pm and Wake Up @ 8:00am
  • Exercise Schedule: 60 minute walk with the dogs 2-3 days, 2 mile walk on treadmill 1 days, 90 minute hike with the dogs, strength/balance exercises on fitness ball 1-2 days

Week 15

I do think that looks like a bit of a belly! I don't know if that is the beginning of a baby belly or if I am just some how getting fat without gaining weight, but somthing down there is making some of my clothes and jackets tighter!

Winter Wonderland

I woke up this morning to my trees covered in snow! Every branch! It brought me back to when I lived in Shelly ID and the moisture in the air would freeze on everything. It is the only thing that makes me apreciate winter. Here are some pictures of my back yard, even though it is snow and not ice it is still beautiful!

This is just how it looked in Shelly!

Updated Belly Pictures

Patriot's......not mine!

Look how pretty it is now!! Compare with the ones I posted about a week ago!

These are the only problem spots left:

His shoulder (I think just because he can reach it to scratch with his back foot)

And right in the front of his elbow joint (where he can bite at it)

Too soon to hope?

Well after getting mostly fish and potato food last night and today, Patriot already seems more comfortable, and we made it through the whole day today without any benadryl at all!! I will have to see if the improvement keeps going, and will take some more pictures of his belly tomorrow and then later in the week to compare. I know for a fact his skin already looks better than it does in the pictures I posted. I just wanted to update sense things are going well today!

To the anonymous comment to the last post; I was going to try duck and potato next, but when he started to react to the venison and potato, I decided to switch back to his fish and potato. I had a feeling all along that this wasn't a problem with his food, and my intuition is turning out to be correct!

So for right now, I am pretty sure that his problems have come from peanut butter or apples or both.....or I am totally wrong, and have no idea what I am talking about! Lol!

One Step Back?

So Patriot started to improve dramatically (with the exception of his flare up from Hobbs' treats); his skin started to clear up, and the really dark swollen areas went away. But the last couple days he has started to gradually get more itchy and uncomfortable. I am completely stumped, but I do have an idea. He is almost completely switched over to his "new" venison and potato food and I think that is causing his skin to flare up.

My next attempt at clearing his skin is to switch him back to his old fish and potato food that had worked for him for almost 5 years! The reasoning for doing this is that it had been about a week and a half sense Patriot had either apples or Peanut butter when his skin started to clear. That was when he was still mostly on the old food (about 25/75). Then he hit the 50/50 mark in the food switch and his skin started getting red again. Now at the 75/25 mark in the switch we are back to feeding 2 benadryls with each meal and sometimes 2 during the day just to stop the itching. This is kind of gross, but his stool the last few days has been kind of covered in slime....not sure what than means, but I wanted to record when it happened. Sorry if I grossed anyone out!

This is my last attempt at fixing this myself. I can't stand to see Patriot suffer anymore if going back to his old food doesn't work. If this doesn't work, I am going to bite the bullet and spend the money for the allergy test. Then hopefully we can find out what the crap is going on with him.

Random Updates

So I have a bunch to update about and don't want to make them all their own posts. So here is goes.

Hobbs:
Hobbs is busy learning tricks. His next "big" trick is going to be circling me walking backwards.....that doesn't make any sense so here is a little video of what I am talking about. To see the end result, just go to the end of the video rather than watching how to teach it.

He is also working on his end behavior on contact boards. I need to paint and sand the board I have because right now it is really slippery and he doesn't like to be on it because of that. We are also still working on learning where his hind end is, and learning how to manipulate different parts of his body. He of course loves every second of it, and gets frustrated if I am not clicking something I usually click. He has been practising weaves, but I don't want to burn him out. I am thinking of building another set of 6 so I can send him through 12 every once in a while. I am so glad that Hobbs broke through that "I can't try anything by myself" barrier and now understands how to learn with the clicker.

Patriot:
We went to our second rally class on Tuesday night, and it was much better than the last one! We went through and practiced probably close to 20 signs and Patriot excelled at all but a couple of them. The ones that are hard for him right now are the finish left and finish right signs. The instructor helped teach me better ways to teach him how to do these....with our not being able to use the clicker effectively. Patriot got really tired about half way into the class, but I think it was more mental tiredness rather than physical. I had forgotten to get more treats before we went, so we used the lamb and rice ones Hobbs uses. Patriot LOVES them, but it was VERY obvious yesterday that he is allergic to either the lamb or rice or both. Not even his 3x's per day dose of benadryl could stave off the itching, and his ears got inflamed as did his toes/paws. Today he is looking much better, and we are half way switched to the new food. It is giving him some loose stools so we are doing it more slowly than I normally would. Last night I was on the verge of taking him back to the vet because he was so miserable, but today he is much happier, and much less itchy. So I have been looking into getting some venison treats, or I am going to just try using string cheese. I have to have something that he wants to get him excited about his training.

Other stuff:
Ingrid left this morning, and it is nice to have my boys to myself. Not that she was a bother, but it is always good to just have my dogs. We had another visitor on Tuesday though! I took the boys on a car ride to the bank, and when we got back their was a big black lab hanging out on our front lawn. He was sniffing and marking (he was obviously intact). Patriot was very offended to see some other dog on his property, and started growling while we pulled up into the driveway. The dog trotted down the road a bit so I took the boys inside, although Patriot really wanted to go after the intruder. Then the dog came back, so I decided to see if he had tags. He ran away from me right at first, and came way too close to getting smashed by a car. I called to him, and he looked at me but didn't make a move towards me, so I whistled. That got him running in my direction! Obviously he is a hunting dog. Unfortunately the only tag he had on was a rabies tag.

I led him back into the yard (to keep him out of the street) and took off his collar so I could call the vet that issued it. They looked him up and found that he lived just a couple houses down from me. They gave me the owner's number and name so I called. The guy didn't sound too worried or surprised to hear that his dog was missing, but said that he would send his wife to get him. The poor boy "Max" was really pretty shy, and VERY hand shy. I put a leash on him, and he walked relatively well. The wife came to get him, and said that he has been getting out because he has to stay out of the house because their 13 year old female dog is in heat. She said they had a little baby gate to keep him in the yard, but that he jumps over it all the time. I was VERY sad for his living situation, but at least I got him back to his owners. Stupid, careless, owners really make me mad though!

Last but not least, Silvia Trkman posted a new "tricks" video on youtube. I know I am probably the only one who is completely fascinated by these, but I figured I would share anyways. This one is of her 7 month old puppy who is busy learning tricks until she is old enough to do actual agility stuff. The first part is just her dogs playing in the snow, so you can skip it if you want. The tricks are amazing!!

Week 14!!! Hahaha!

Finally! According to the what to expect when your expecting book says I am in my second trimester!! I am feeling energized, and can eat when I want, rather than all the time to stave off the nausea. The only bad thing this week is that I noticed that I was soo ornery all the time! Everything annoyed me! I was a complete beast to Robert most of the week, but he loves me anyways (he is such an amazing man!) Anyways here is the stats update for the week.
  • Weight: 156.4 - I am not sure if weight loss is ok at this point, but I haven't been eating any less, just more healthy food.
  • Waist: 36" - How is it that I lose over a pound, and gain almost 2"?
  • TP square measurement: 9 1/2 sq
  • Bra size: Maternity Large
  • Sleeping Schedule: Go to Bed @ 9:00-10:30pm and Wake Up @ 8:00-8:50am
  • Exercise Schedule: 60 minute walk with the dogs 3-4 days, 2 mile walk on treadmill 2 days, strength/balance exercises on fitness ball 1-2 days

I do believe that my belly is getting a little bigger! Or that could be because I had just eaten before I took this.

Do-It-Myself

So Patriot's allergy crap is still not going away, so I am going to try a food change to see if it helps. I found a good food, Natural Balance, (so I hear) that has three different Limited Ingredient Diet foods Fish and Potato, Duck and Potato, and Venison and Potato. Patriot right now is on Fish and Potato food with Catfish as the main fish source. I have heard that Whitefish is sometime better as an allergy reducer, but the Natural Balance one is made with salmon. I decided to go with the venison and sweet potato food this time, and will try it for a while to see what happens. Expect some pretty boring allergy/food related posts for a while as I try to find a solution to this problem....without going to the vet again.

I also wanted to post some pictures of Patriot's current skin problem.....just incase someone sees them and says "hey that isn't allergies thats some other easily fixable problem!"

This is the most recent development...he has small really dark red dots up where the main hair on his body is growing

This particular spot is so itchy, that I can not even touch it without him going into a scratching fit!

The fact that neither his ears or feet are infected/inflamed is a bit of a red flag that this problem may not be an allergy thing. Any time he had an allergic reaction to foods before he would get a massive ear infection and is toes would get red and sore. This time is different. It is mostly on his belly and chin. It kind of makes me wonder if there is something else going on. I am going to get him in for a check up and blood panel soon if this food change doesn't help.

Lastly, here is a comparison of the ingredients in what he is eating now and the new food we are going to try. The bold ingredients in the new food are in both foods. I guess there are a few of them, but the main proteins are different, and the Natural Balance ones sound healthier!

Old Food:
Catfish meal, ground rice, oatmeal, pearled barley, dehydrated potatoes, chicken fat (preserved with with mixed tocopherols), natural flavor, calcium carbonate, tomato pomace, sodium tripolyphosphate, flax seed, potassium chloride, minerals (zinc proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc oxide, iron proteinate, copper sulfate, copper proteinate, manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, calcium iodate, sodium selenite), vitamins (vitamin E supplement, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), inositol, niacin supplement, vitamin A supplement, d-calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, beta-carotene, riboflavin supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, menadione sodium bisulfite complex, vitamin D3 supplement, folic acid, biotin, vitamin B12 supplement), yeast culture, choline chloride, yucca schidigera, rosemary extract.

New Food:
Sweet Potatoes, Venison, Venison Meal, Potato Protein, Canola Oil, Potato Fiber, Flaxseed, Natural Flavor, Choline Chloride, Natural Mixed Tocopherols, Taurine, Vitamin E Supplement, Iron Proteinate, Zinc Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Potassium Iodide, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B-1), Manganese Proteinate, Manganous Oxide, Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin A Supplement, Biotin, Calcium Pantothenate, Manganese Sulfate, Sodium Selenite, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B-6), Vitamin B-12 Supplement, Riboflavin (Vitamin B-2), Vitamin D-3 Supplement, Folic Acid.

So....I forgot to introduce

Ingrid!!

She is a 10 year old retired guide, and has been here sense thursday, and is stay until thursday. She has been a very good girl! The boys get along with her just fine, and she sleeps on tie-down so I didn't even have to bring out the kennel. The only naughty thing she has done the whole time here was to knock over Patriot's bucket of food and eat some of it. Luckly she is not the kind of dog who will eat until they throw up!! She probably ate like 3-4 cups of it, and then stopped! Here are some pictures of her and the boys:

Turtle is obsessed with Ingrid!! It is really funny!

Patriot looks so tortured in this one!

Stroller!!

Robert and I went to Babies r Us yesterday to walk around and to look at cheap baby gates (to keep the boys out of the laundry/kittylitter room). I thought I was going to be totally overwhelmed with all the "stuff" but I was so ready to spend millions of dollars on everything down to the smallest things. While looking at the stroller/car seat combos we found one that was not too expensive and it was very light, and steared very well...and well, we bought it!! I am so glad that we have a major purchase out of the way. Here are some pictures! And I know it is purple, but you can aparently go online and buy covers in other designs....or it will be fading to grey in the sun! Or our little boy will just have to deal with it!

The stroller

And car seat

The stroller and car seat together

I love that it has a sun screen on both the carrier and the stroller! They overlap, and shut out all the light

We also have our crib and changing table picked out, and are ready to order them. Luckly they are coming out of a magazine that Robert's parents get the discount price for. So the $500 crib we like is only costing us $175!! It will actually be $275 but we have $100 towards a crib as a christmas gift. I decided that I LOVE buying stuff for this baby!

First Rally Class

Stupid pregnancy brain!! lol, I totally forgot to post about Patriot's class on Tuesday!!

We went a little early to give Patriot a chance to get used to all the dogs there. It was just in a big fairgrounds building, so all the classes are in the same room, just in different corners with all the conformation and obedience people in the center. So I paid for class, and walked Patriot around for a while. I had forgotten how bad and distracted Patriot used to be during our puppy meetings! I was very glad I had brought his metal training collar or he would have completely embarrassed me. He was very distracted during most of the class.

Once the class got started, all the people introduced themselves and their dogs, and the instructor introduced herself. It turns out I am the only one who has never done any Rally. There are even a couple of dog in class who are working towards their Excellent Title! But there are a couple dogs who haven't done any Rally for years and need a refresher course.

For the majority of class we lined up in two lines and the instructor held up pretty easy signs for us to do two at a time. For those who don't know what Rally is, here is a small explanation. It is where you go into the ring and follow a course of little signs that tell you what to do such as an about turn, or weave with the dog through a few cones, all with the dog in a basic heel position.

The signs we practised were:
*Right Turn
*Left Turn
*About Turn Right
*About Turn Left
*Halt and Sit
*Halt and Sit and Down
*One where you have the dog come to the front, sit, then you back up one step and the dog comes with you and sits, then two more steps, and then three steps, then you have the dog get out of your way and you continue walking forward. It was a complicated sign, but Patriot did it like a champ! The only thing I did wrong was I didn't get him far enough out of the way before I started walking so I bumped him with my knee.

I think those were all the signs we practiced this time, but I hope we get to do more next time. All in all it was a pretty boring class, but I am sure it will get more difficult and therefor more fun! The only part I am really not looking forward to is that I have to bring a kennel to put Patriot in if I ever have to do something in class alone. Just to remind everyone what Patriot's kennel looks like:

Patriot's is the bigger one...This is why I don't want to drag it with me every week to Rally class! Maybe I can get him to squeeze into a smaller one....or I will have to drag Robert with me so he can hold him.
We have bene bad and haven't practiced at all sense class, but There are only a couple things that we need to practice anyways!

Ultrasound Videos

Ok, I don't have a still shot, but I have videos! To put in into an uploadable file it spliced it into 4 videos. Unfortunatly the coolest part of the ultrasound was when the baby rolled over from back to front....and it ended up being right where the first and second videos were sliced. So you get to see the first part of the movement on video 1 and then the second part on video 2

Ok, right at the end you can see him/her start to roll over

Here is the heartbeat, sorry if the sound doesn't work!!

Most of this one was when I asked the doctor to check to see if we could see the gender.....no luck!

Jumping Bean

Today was our second appointment with the baby doctor. This time, although short, didn't feel as rushed. It wasn't an internal exam this time THANK HEAVENS!! Our little one was moving like crazy! It started on its back and then rolled over onto its stomach. The doctor said it measured about 13 and a half weeks so just a few days ahead of what my ticker says.....I am not changing it though. We heard the heartbeat for a bit even though the little bean was moving so much that it was kind of muffled.

I can't wait until next week when we get to "try" to see the gender!! It will be the greatest 2 year anniversary gift ever! Even if it will be 2 days late. I am trying to get a picture off of the dvd we have, but I might have to post it a little later.

Crap!

Patriot has been on prednisone sense the middle of November, and just finished his last half a pill about a week ago. Well, we are back to living on benadryl to keep the itching at bay. It seems like this flare up is worse than the last one! So we will be going back to the vet at some point to find out what we should do next. I am really not looking forward to a food protiacall! That allergy food is like $60 a bag!

***Some more info*** Patriot is eating Natures Recipe Fish and Potato dog food after trying both lamb and rice and Fish and Rice with no luck. He has actually been on this food for several years with very good results. I am considering trying a Duck and Potato food to see if he has developed an allergy to his food. I haven't gotten him allergy tested yet because the $200+ charge isn't covered by his pet insurance (pre-existing condition) and isn't really fitting into our budget right now. So it is trial and error until we find something that works. Something of note, he did get into several apples in the past few days that fell off our tree....I am starting to wonder if he is allergic to them.

On a better note, Patriot has his first Rally class tonight and all the practice we have been doing is helping him not swing out when he sits in the heel position! It is great to see how much he love doing obedience practice! I just hope he can behave himself in class....and that the two benadryls he had wont make him sleep through class.

Update

Wow, week 13! It seems like just yesterday that I was damaging my eyes staring at the nearly non existent pink line on the dollar store pregnancy test. Now I am trying to wrap my head around the fact that in 7 weeks I will be half way to my due date! Tomorrow is our second doctor's appointment, and I am very excited! I know that I probably wont be finding out the sex of the baby, but next month seems SO far away!
  • Weight: 157.6 - Wahooo! A whole .2 lbs in a week! I think I am eating healthy!
  • Waist: 34 1/2"
  • TP square measurement: 9 sq
  • Bra size: Maternity Large
  • Sleeping Schedule: Go to Bed @ 9:00-10:30pm and Wake Up @ 8:00-8:50am
  • Exercise Schedule: 60 minute walk with the dogs 3-4 days, 2 mile walk on treadmill 1 day, strength/balance exercises on fitness ball 2-3 days

Energy wise I am feeling much better most days. I have been having some pretty bad headaches, but I think most of that is because I don't drink enough liquids. I had a hard time staying hydrated before the pregnancy, and now it is a million times harder! I am going to try some Gatorade or pediasure to keep my electrolytes up, and my body hydrated properly. I hope that works better because as it is now, I feel like I am having to drink water until I want to puke all day long!

Still not much change in the belly area!

Some much needed therapy

No I don't mean real therapy! I have been wanting to get my hair cut again for a while, and just haven't gotten around to it. It has been quite a while sense I cut my hair last, and that was just a trim! So this time I took a bit more off. Here are the before and after pics:

Before. This is the longest my hair has been sense my wedding day!

And after! I got an A-line cut that is pretty short in the back

A shot of the back sorry it is blurry! I am not sure if the dark spot on my neck in a rash from the hair stylist's razor, or if it is a hickey.

Another shot of the side/back
I am so glad that I finally went to get it cut! It makes me feel better about my appearance because I was starting to feel a little sloppy.

Girls Night Out!

For the first time in my life (well except for at college) I went to a girls night out. My friend Kalynne invited me to come with her to a night with some ladies from her ward. It was SO nice to be out talking to girls again! I have no girl friends close by and only one that I feel comfortable calling just to talk. I had no idea what to expect from a girls night out, but had a wonderful time. There were about 8 of us there, and we had lots of snacks. We basically sat around and talked for hours! Robert and all the other husbands stayed at home either alone or with the children of the family. Most of the ladies had 2 children with one having 4 and another just having one. Then Kalynne and I were the pregnant ones and stayed until just after 1am. I was exhausted by the time I got home, but wasn't tired or bored by the time we left! Hopefully we do it again sometime!

Unfortunately I got pulled over on the way home (my first time EVER) for having a tail light out! I didn't even know it was out! I think the cop was hoping I was drunk or something. Luckily he didn't even give me a "fix it" ticket, just told me that I needed to get it done. Boo for ruining my never been pulled over record!

I am still recovering from being up that late, but I think I have caught up on that today.....I slept quite a bit! My riding instructor called though to tell me that I wont be having a lesson this week because my pony has a bad cough that isn't going away so her owner doesn't want her being used. I hope she gets better soon!

Introducing......

Edie! (Eee-Dee)

Lindsey left little Edie with Robert and me for the last couple days, and all went well! She is still a baby at only 8 months...or is she 9....I dont' remember! She was very excited to hang out with the boys, but the feeling wasn't entirely mutual. Patriot didn't want anything to do with her, and Hobbs suprised me by getting sick of her after a little while. He didn't get grumpy about it or anything, but would come and ask for protection from her after playing for a while. Silly boy! She went out with us on our date to see Seven Pounds (interesting movie!) and to dinner at Applebees. She was very good, but I avoided any issues by not letting people pet her.

As for pictures.....I went to take them, and my camera was so dead that it wouldn't stay on long enough even for one. So I put it back on the charger, and didn't notice that it wasn't plugged in. So no pictures due to my pregnancy brain! She is a cute girl though. Lindsey just picked her up, and the boys have been sleeping ever sense!

The Dog Park

I wasn't going to post about this because it was just a trip to the dog park, but it turned into the best time we have had in a while. I have been trying to get off my lazy hiney on a regular basis to walk or go hiking with the boys, but wanted to take them to the dog park to play. So yesterday I took them down to Salt Lake City and we went to one of the parks we used to go to. There were only a few dogs there, so I didn't think they would have very much fun. Boy did Patriot prove me wrong!

He was completely OVER JOYED to be there! He was running labby scoot circles, and leaping in the air, and running without looking where he was going (he ran into the fence), and full on wrestling with other dogs! Hobbs played chase for a good long while with the dogs there, but he got tired quickly and then just wanted to mark things.

This particular dog park has a cement tunnel for the dogs to play in, so just for fun I sent Hobbs to it from about 50-100 feet away and he WENT THROUGH IT IMMEDIATELY!! I was totally shocked after that when I told Patriot to go though it from about 20 feet away and he went through it too!

I was laughing at Patriot's excitement for most of the time we were there. I so wished I had brought my camera to take a video of him. He was so happy, and would get excited even when a new car would pull into the parking lot! It was probably a "you had to be there" moment, but it was so fun to see him so happy. He even was up on his hind legs "boxing" with one of the young boxers there! It was like he went back to being a 2 year old!

Sick of Winter

Ok, I am officially starting to get spring fever! That is probably a bad thing seeing as it is only the 9th of January! It is just not a great time of year. Taking good care of the dogs is very hard now that we don't live by an open dog park. Hiking in the mountains works most days, but it gets slippery up there and I don't want to risk falling down the side of a mountain.

I can take the dogs to the dog park, but it is a 45 minute drive and that is a waste of money and time. For some reason the sidewalks here don't get shoveled so it makes just walking them in the neighborhood hard. It was so nice when they were guide dog puppies and we could go to the mall to walk for an hour! Or to another store to walk. I can only stand to take both boys to walk at PetSmart so many times. UGH, I just want it to be spring!!

Agility and Rally Practice

Ok, so Patriot's Rally class was postponed for a week due to the blizzard we were having on Tuesday. I was really disappointed and sad, but after my riding lesson and everything that day (driving for 1 1/2 hours in the blizzard was a bit stressful) I was exhausted and happy I didn't have one more thing to go to! The only thing that will be hard with this class is that fact that my riding lesson is the same day, and it is at 8pm. I have been lucky to go to bed as late as 9pm!! I will just have to slip a late nap in right after my lesson and Robert will have to be the dinner cooker that day.

But anyways we decided to practice some Rally today. Mostly I just wanted to lower my expectations and stop trying to push clicker training on Patriot. He just doesn't' get it, so I am going to have to figure out another way to teach him that perfect heel position. Another of our personal challenges is that Heel in GDB training means Patriot's head is at my knee, rather than his shoulder like it is in competition obedience. That is going to have to change soon! Something I really wanted to try with him is getting him to do the hind end work on the bucket like Hobbs does. The hard part is that with Hobbs I could click and he would instantly understand that he was doing the right thing! But I decided to stop thinking that way and just get Patriot on the bucket......and this was the result:

I am so glad that I just took the time to show him (by physically putting him on the bucket) what I wanted him to do, and now he is getting a little better at it!
Then Hobbs and I also practised some agility and also played on the bucket a little bit (he really doesn't learn anything new on that ever, but he is getting rather confident on it! Just look!

He looks like I yelled at him in this one, but he just was sick of sitting on the bucket and wanted his treat

We brought the weave poles inside for some practice because he was refusing to do them outside. He would just act like he had never seen them before! He was ecstatic to be doing weaves again! I was afraid he was going to get going too fast and break one of the poles but thankfully he didn't. Finally he slowed down a little and got his footwork going and then sped back up doing it properly. He is so fun to work with!! I can't wait til his agility class starts in March!

Week 12

So I know I said that last week I was one week away from my second trimester, but aparently week 14 starts the 2nd. So NOW I am 2 weeks away from the end of my first trimester! Woohoo! I am feeling good most days, but am tired often and have taken a nap most days this week.

I sadly finished taking the prescription prenatal's samples that my doctor gave me. So yesterday I took another of the over-the-counter ones my mother in law bought me. Then last night was the longest night EVER!! I woke up two hours after I went to bed thinking it was morning, then again at 1,2,3, and 4:30 thinking the same thing! I would have to convince myself every time that it really wasn't morning and I needed to go back to sleep. Not any fun at all! This isn't the first time it has happened, every time I take a prenatal that isn't either a prescription or the One-a-day brand I can't sleep for the life of me! So I get to go buy another bottle of one-a-days until my next doctor's appointment, then I am going to get an actual prescription. Hopefully they aren't too expensive. Anyways here are my weekly stats!
  • Weight: 157.4
  • Waist: 35"
  • TP square measurement: 9 1/4 sq
  • Bra size: Maternity Large
  • Sleeping Schedule: Go to Bed @ 9:00-10:30pm and Wake Up @ 7:30-8:00am
  • Exercise Schedule: To be honest I really can't remember how much exercise I got this week! It flew by so fast! I know I went hiking at least once and walked the dogs twice...at least.

And the picture!
