CAT DIARY:
Day 983 of my captivity:
My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects.
They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape.
In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.
Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am.
Fools!
There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.
Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.
I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches.
The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded.
The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe.....For now......

F.I.R.
Tonight's puppy meeting was really fun! Lindsey substituted as our leader, and we worked on the Food Induced Recall (FIR) and dog distractions and greetings.
We met at the Sugerhouse park in SLC, it was a beautiful place. I have never been there before, only driven past. It was pretty cold because we woke up to about 4" of snow on the ground this morning. Everyone bundled up though and didn't freeze too badly.
The news for our club is that Bowie is in Phase 10 and has been for a while. His raiser is going on vacation so we are hoping that he isn't put in class while she is gone. Our club is getting one new puppy on the April 11th puppy truck a "M" puppy (parents are Simon and ?) The raisers are overlapping for two months, and I am sure will want plenty of puppysitters willing to take one of the PIT's off their hands. The new raisers who were getting an April puppy are waiting until June. Apparently they ran out of spaces or puppies for that truck.
Hobbs did pretty good with the FIR. I never noticed that I use the same tone every time I say come. We traded dogs and Hobbs was having a horrible time coming to people, because they weren't saying it the same way I do. That is going to be the next thing we work on; using different tones of voice. Hobbs got to be handled by everyone in the club, which is always good for him.
Once again I forgot my camera, so sorry no pictures.
The next thing we worked on in the meeting was some dog related manners. Everyone stood in a circle and one by one wove in and out all the way around the circle. We walked the dogs past each other, one by one, and then had them meet in the middle. Hobbs did great walking past and only hackled a little with each dog he met. He got a little overzealous with the girl dog in the group, not a PIT, and she growled at him but that was the only incident of the night.
I really like having the puppy meetings where we work with the dogs and trade dogs with other raisers. It is better for the pups that way, and the raisers improve with every new dog they handle. Tonights was a great meeting. Thanks Lindsey!

Thanks to Megan I have a new puppy raising club listed on the right hand side of my blog it is the Paws for the Cause club in AZ! Guess who is currently being raised in that club! Great day of work!
Today was a great day a work! I sold 4 classes plus one potty training class! That makes up for my not selling anything these past couple weeks. That came to a total of 8 classes and 3 potty training classes for the week...which means money for me! I also got told by one of my clients that I am "AMAZING" and that I "Know everything!" Lol, I don't realise sometimes just how much training Guide dogs has opened up my mind to the hows and whys of training dogs. Much of the time, when I am asked behavior questions, I rarely have to think about the answer. As for the training who is going to replace me...he just doesn't know that yet... I am not a huge fan yet. He has a TON to learn, but hopefully he doesn't get overwhelmed and quit before he gets going. He obviously doesn't have any dog training experiance, or even trained his own dog to any extent.
Robert's friend and his wife, moved today into our apartment complex! They moved some last night and then today while I was a work. They are in one of the newly remodled apartments (just like we will be in 2 weeks!) and it looks great! The cabinets and floors are wood, and all the carpets and appliences are new! They are the couple who took two of the kittens, and we brought then over earlier this evening. They are adjusting well, and were already using the litterbox by the time we left. Anyways that is it for today! Hopefully I will have pictures of something soon.

The Work Crisis
A couple of posts ago I mentioned that Robert is starting a new job soon....well here is the whole story!
Weeks ago a couple of guys got laid off from Robert's job. He went to his boss and asked if he should be worried and looking for a new job. They assured him that his job was secure, and that he had nothing to worry about. Around this same time, a company invited Robert to come in for an interview. He had applied at the company back in CA, and hadn't heard anything else about it. So he went in and interviewed and was offered a position at a higher pay and better benefits. We talked about it and decided that it was better to stay with the job he has. Last week Robert went up to ID to do a job, and the day after he got back (this thursday) Robert was laid off!! So he will be starting at the new company on the 7th of April after he finnishes this week at his job. Its a bummer that he has to start over at a new company, but hopefully it will be better for us. The company is much more secure, and will hopefully be one he can be at for a few years. So that is the story!

Thursday 13
To all those wondering where my TT's have gone. I just did not feel up to it these past two weeks, so hopefully next week I will again have one up.
Why are Friday's so hard?
I am once again having a bad day. I don't understand how fridays are so bad so often! I just woke up in a funk and haven't been able to shake it. Nothing really triggers these bad fridays, but they happen a lot. We are going through some work issues this week that are kinda hard to deal with, but we have handled it as best as we can.
Robert is starting a new job on the 7th (if all goes well) and will be making more money than he was at this job. The new company is more secure, and has much better benefits, even though the ones at this company never kicked in. The new ones will start basically as soon as he fills out the papers for them. Hopefully this job will be a good as the last one, Robert really enjoyed most of the days he worked there.
Anyways I will post again tomorrow, probably in a better mood.

They have come a long way!
I haven't updated or posted about our litter of kittens in a while! This is mostly because I am getting rather tired of having 5 cats in my house, and stopped taking pictures of them. Unfortunately we are not going to be rid of all of them until April 17th! Two of them are going to their home this Saturday, and I will miss them, but I am glad they will not be my responsibility any longer. They are all litter box trained and haven't had an accident in quite a while. Turtle is VERY tired of having them around and will climb up on places they can't get to, to get away from them. They are all still trying to nurse, and I keep them from doing it as much as I can.
The two that are going to my mother in law are defiantly the mousers of the four. They will attack anything and everything, moving or not! The other two are quite the opposites and it will be interesting to see how their new owner's handle it. They are going to their homes in pairs, the two orange and white to one home (my Mother in law) and the other two, the solid orange and the tabby, are going to married friends of ours. Downtown SLC
Waiting patiently for the train Hobbs and I went on an adventure to downtown SLC a couple days ago, and it was great. We (yet again) rode Trax up, and back to save money on gas. Hobbs was a little funny about the stairs this time for some reason. Maybe we will have to work on those some how. I think at the end of the line the train sits there for a little while, rather than the very short amount of time at all the other stops. I think the problem is that they are metal and pretty slippery so he gets nervous and rushes, causing him to slip even more. The people on the train were great to talk to. For some reason they all wanted me to go into detail about how I train him, especially what I did when he disobeyed. I tried my best to explain it without triggering the "oh so you are cruel to the dogs" comments.
We went to the Gateway Mall, and took a tour of the LDS conference center. Both were great for Hobbs. He did fabulously at both and really impressed a lot of people. I think our tour guide was kind of weirded out by having a dog in the group, but he didn't say anything about it.
I tried to take more pictures in the conference center, but for some reason my camera's flash was being retarded.....so this is it! I got probably 7 or 8 compliments on his coat, so here for everyone is my "secret" for keeping his coat so nice.
- I brush him every day with the "Zoom Groom"
- I bathe him only once a month....unless he really needs it
- He gets two Fish Oil pills in his food every day (this is more to control the dandruff and dry skin)
- Lots of love and attention (you think I am kidding, this really makes a shinier coat!)

I think I have mentioned the Guide dog Internship I have applied for this year. This is the LAST year I am applying, so if I yet again don't get it, I will just have to live with that....forever. I thought everything with my application was all fine and dandy, until last night.
One of the people I asked to fill out a recommendation form called to tell me that after much consideration, they didn't feel that they knew me well enough to fill it out!! I understand, and there are no hard feelings, but now I have exactly 3 days to find someone else to do one for me!! The form has to be in by April 1st so to get there it has to be OVERNIGHTED no later than Friday!! Talk about stressful! Luckily I have picked someone to fill it out....come to find out they can't until Friday because they are sick!! So all my fingers and toes are crossed that this time the forms get there on time. Two of the four years I have applied one or both forms didn't make it in time, making my application worthless. Please everyone who reads this CROSS YOUR FINGERS FOR ME!!
I am super lonely being here without my hubby. I don't know how I live without him!

Hobbs' Birthday
Ok, so I wasn't as prompt with the birthday post as I though I would be. Anyways here it is.
Hobbs had a great birthday (uneventful but great) He and Patriot got to play all day, and were exhausted by the end of the day. Hobbs, has been going on group walks every day so that day he got to go out alone with me. We did some errands and then I took him, with his new 26' retractable leash, to the Dimple Dell Park where he could jump over logs and play in the water a little....I think it was super cold though. He had a great time and was VERY tired by the time we went home. We even ran into a lady walking her poodle, and Hobbs didn't stop or hackle, just stared intently at the dog to make sure it wasn't going to kill him. Huge improvement over three weeks ago!
For his birthday presents Hobbs got the retractable leash, an extra 1/2 cup of food for dinner, got to sleep out of his kennel for the night (Patriot joined him because I felt bad for him), and all the cuddle time he could ever want all day long! Here is his birthday picture!

Husbandless:(
That's right folks! Robert is out of town for work until late Wednesday night!! His company did the electrical for this place north of us and they liked the work so much they requested that his company do the electrical for their store in Pocatello ID. So I am here by myself....and am already bored out of my mind. Ok, I am not totally alone, I do have the two dogs and the cat to keep me company. It will be nice to get the house clean today, and just relax for the week....well besides work.
On Saturday night we went to a birthday party for Robert's friend's wife. It was really great to once again be out with friends and enjoying being part of a group. The birthday girl also invited me to a slumber party with some of her friends, so maybe this will be the start of having girlfriends again!! Not much else has been happening thought lately. Just life and getting ready to move into our new apartment!

I can feel a difference in the day, there is just something calm and peaceful about it. Long Day
Today was a long day, but a good day all the same. I of course had to work until 4 and then I hurried home. Robert and I were looking through some online home-for-sale ads and had decided to go look at one just for fun. It is technically one we could afford, only like $50 more than our rent will be in the new apt. We are not seriously looking to buy a house yet, but I wanted to know what the house looked like just incase we fell in love with it. So here are some pictures of the house.

HOBBS WAS BORN!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY HOBBS !!!!
One year ago today Gabriela gave birth to Hobbs, Hal, Hansel, Higgins M Black Hobbs, Hope, Howell, and Hydra. Happy birthday to all of them. As for me, what was I doing one year ago?
First off I had no idea I would be getting another puppy in two months! Robert and I had just returned to CA after going to my sister's wedding on the 16th. We were playing a waiting game to move into a larger apartment, but it kept being delayed. Our plan was to get into a place big enough to move patriot in with us.....obviously it took a while longer to do that than we thought. I had only been going to puppy meetings in CA for a couple weeks and was planning to just be a puppy sitter. On the 23rd I think I was at Banner horse Farms getting an application for what would be my favorite job with my least favorite boss.
It wasn't until the middle of April that I applied for a puppy, and even later (may 21st) that I even found out that I was assigned a puppy and would be getting him on June 1st. On May 25th I found out I was getting a MBLB with a good one-syllable "H" name. That started the name guessing that lasted about two days, and then I decided that the only one-syllable "H" name I liked was Hobbs. Robert wasn't too fond of the the name but I had all my fingers crossed that we would get Hobbs. One name that I really didn't like was Hal, so my fingers were crossed that we wouldn't get that one.
It turns out I got the better name, and the one I wanted! And now here he is all grown up at a year old! Now the countdown begins towards recall. Hopefully we will have him until August. Happy birthday, baby boy!

First Hike of the Year
The dogs and I went for a hike today instead of our regular walk. Ok, it wasn't really a hike, but it felt like I was out in the woods. It was sooooo wonderful!! It was great to get out and let the dogs play, Hobbs had to stay on leash though:( Patriot immediately found a pond and got sufficiently soaked. We walked for almost an hour and a half and I jogged a good portion of it. The reason for that was for Hobbs' benefit...he was quite upset that he couldn't run like Patriot.

It is almost spring!!
I am getting spring fever like you wouldn't believe!! I am loving this warm weather, even if it is broken up by bouts of snow! The dogs and I go walking every morning and it is almost warm enough to just wear a jacket instead of bundling up under 3 or 4 layers!
I have seen tons of robins and other "spring time birds" so I am hoping we will be having permanent good weather soon. I don't mind the rain, but the snow this time of year is a little hard to take.
With the spring though comes planning and vacation juggling. Robert and I are going to be attending our first reunion as a married couple, which will hopefully be a great experience. This year it is in So. Utah which will be warm and very fun! Neither of our families are....um developed enough to have our own reunions. That will be a blast eventually.
Work went a little better yesterday, but still not as great as it was a couple years ago when I first started training for PetSmart. The new trainer sounds good, so hopefully he will make the grade in accreditation and come relieve me of my misery. Lol, so it isn't THAT bad! Anyways that is my post for the day, maybe tomorrows will be better!

Burnt Out
I know that I talk about dogs all the time, and post a whole bunch about my guide dog puppy, so naturally you would assume that I would LOVE my job. Well I like little parts of it, but I think I am just burnt out. I dread every day that I have to go to work, and my favorite time of the week is Saturday evening because it is the farthest away from a day I have to work. Sad Huh?
In a few weeks I am going to put in my resignation once again at PetSmart. I would do it now, but that would leave the store I work at without a trainer. They just hired this new guy and he is accrediting this next two weeks. After he is working at the store and has started a couple of new classes I am going to finish out my classes, and be done. I may get another job, but it wont be as a trainer anywhere, and most likely wont be with dogs....well unless I can get one at the Doggy daycare. Mostly I just want away from feeling like I am trapped in my job. Maybe I can find a job at a horse barn again. I loved working at the barn in Bakersfield. It was probably my favorite job I have had....except for the owner.
In happier news, I have been losing weight pretty regularly on this new diet! That combined with walking 1 hr minimum every day with the dogs is doing wonders for me!
In a few weeks I am going to put in my resignation once again at PetSmart. I would do it now, but that would leave the store I work at without a trainer. They just hired this new guy and he is accrediting this next two weeks. After he is working at the store and has started a couple of new classes I am going to finish out my classes, and be done. I may get another job, but it wont be as a trainer anywhere, and most likely wont be with dogs....well unless I can get one at the Doggy daycare. Mostly I just want away from feeling like I am trapped in my job. Maybe I can find a job at a horse barn again. I loved working at the barn in Bakersfield. It was probably my favorite job I have had....except for the owner.
In happier news, I have been losing weight pretty regularly on this new diet! That combined with walking 1 hr minimum every day with the dogs is doing wonders for me!

I can't really tell if Patriot is losing weight yet, so I am going to be posting a series of pictures to see if I can see any difference over time. Any comments are welcome, I know he needs to lose some of the chub!
