Baby Food!!

Kaylee is going to be starting solids a few days after she turns 6 months old. I am waiting to get the official ok from her pediatrician and want to give her a few days to get over her 6 month shots. I am planing to give her rice cereal for the first week just to get her used to the idea of eating, and then she will be eating pears as her first fruit. I will probably still give her the rice cereal too, but there isn't a whole lot of nutritional value to it.

I got a baby food blender for Christmas and got to use it yesterday to start stocking my freezer with baby food. I found a great site with TONS of information about making homemade baby food.

Ice cube trays, Blender, and Bananas

My plan is to make the food in little chunks (hense the ice cube trays) that will be in individual zip lock baggies. That way I can pull one out at a time to thaw and feed to Kaylee. I started with Bananas mostly because all the bananas that I bought were quickly getting over-ripe, and I didn't want them to go bad.

Bananas - before:

Bananas - After:

I steamed the pears before I pureed them because they weren't quite as ripe as I thought when I started peeling them.
Pears and Bananas ready to be frozen

I also decided to make some banana/pear mix for her once I know that she wont have a reaction to either fruit.

I sprayed a little pam on the inside of the ice cube trays so that the frozen cubes of food would come out easily, and it worked like a charm! The food came out in perfect little blocks!

I am going to be making Pears, bananas, banana/pear mix, carrots, acorn squash, sweet potatoes, and yams in the next few days. I also want to make some squash (different kinds), peas, green beans, apple sause, avocados, mango (probably wont happen until they come back in season), crookneck squash, peaches, pumpkin, and Zucchini. I wish I would have kept some of the plums that came off the tree in our yard because they would have been fun to use. It is going to be SO fun!
