Moving Day!!!

My husband and i have been working on moving into a two bedroom apartment in our complex since the end of march and today is the day! Finally I will have more than a pathway through all of our stuff and our boxes will be hidden from sight! I will have room for the puppy I am getting tomorrow and still have room for my husbands dog Dodge! Even though I hate moving because it takes sooo much time and energy I am excited to finally feel like I have my own place and am not just living in a bachelor pad. Lol, ok it wasn't that bad....we just didn't have enough room.

The only thing that worries me is that this is a lot of stress for Dodge to take in just a couple of days. First the move and then he has to learn to share attention with the puppy. Lets hope that is works out!

History on my puppies!

Ok now for a little bit about the puppies I have raised.

My first puppy I got on June 30, 2002 when I lived in Utah with my parents. I had just graduated from high school and was thinking of taking a scholarship to college but when I got the ok from my parents to raise I turned it down and took a year off school.

The puppy's name was Patriot and he was a yellow lab. His parents were Klondike and Flower and he was born on May 1, 2002. There were eight other puppies in his litter. Their names were: Phoenix, Pritchard, Pearson, Paulina, Pearla, Pearlette, Prudy and Polka. Prudy was raised in the same club as Patriot, and Pearson, Pritchard, and Pearlette were also raised in UT. Patriot was a little bit of a hellion at first but by five-six months old he did a 180 and became the perfect puppy. He was recalled on August 2, 2003 and I drove him to the Oregon campus of GDB myself and we attended Fun Day as our last "outing". It was hard to give him back but I knew one way or the other I would see him again...either at graduation or when he came home from being CC'd. Two months into his training he was career changed for "Chronic ear infections and allergies" so he is now my baby boy! Unfortunately when since I have gotten married I don't have enough room in the apartment for three dogs (dodge, patriot, and a puppy in training) so I have decided to raise one more puppy. Then I can bring Patriot down from my parent's house in Utah and he can finally live with me!

I had another puppy for about two weeks as a transfer dog but she had enough issues that she needed to be in the same club area as the CFR. Her name was Maria and she was a black lab. I found out that she was eventually career changed for multiple issues.

My second puppy came quite a bit later in December of 2005. Her name was Calliope (call-eye-o-pee) a black lab born on January 30, 2005. Her parents were Faust and Dijon and there were eight other puppies in her litter as well! Two of which (Cambridge and Cardinal) were being raised in the same club I was attending! Their names were Cambria, Cambridge, Cardinal, Cassandra, Champion, Chantal, Corky, and Cloe. I got Calliope as a transfer puppy but she didn't come with any issues. Her former raiser simply decided to have her transfered. She was a bit of a trial at first because she had just come out of season and then was spayed so she had TONS of pent up energy to expel! She also had horrific house behavior especially when she was left home. She would pull anything in through her kennel (I only had a wire one) and destroy it. or if left unattended in a room for too long she would find something to completely shred to tiny bits. She also went through about a month of having "the trots" almost constantly so it was like having a baby puppy who gets up a couple times a night. But by the end of it she was great and it was so difficult to give her back. She was recalled on MY BIRTHDAY of all days!! What happened is I turned her in again at Fun Day this time at the San Rafael campus. She ended up graduating on December 16, 2006 to a nice older lady who lives in Fresno California (just an hour and a half from where I live now).

I will be adding pictures to this for a while as I get them on my husbands computer so check back.

Hello to Everyone!

I am new to this blogging thing so forgive me if I don't post much. I am planning to use this mainly to post about the guide dog puppies I have raised and am raising, but you may get the occasional news flash about my regular life.

My name is Brittany and I live in southern California. I have been raising puppies for the past five years, but have only had two dogs so far. I am currently waiting for puppy # 3 who is going to be a male black lab with a name starting with "H". I am a little worried because I was told it was a one syllable name and the ones I can think of are not that great. Here they are:
Hank, Huck, Hawk, Hort, Hoop, Hoops, Hub, Hobs, Hart, Halle, (Hale is a working dogalready), Hall, Ham, Haig, Hans, Hal, Heath, Hill, Hugh, Huon, Hunt,Holt, Howe, Hurst.... any suggestions?

I am picking him up Friday June 1st which is just two days away!!! Anyways more about me. I recently got married and inherited a dog along with my husband. He is a lab/something mix and drives me crazy.... We will see how it goes with this new puppy.
